Read the sermon text: Hebrews 13:20-25
Read the sermon summary: As we draw our study of Hebrews to a close, we see that the author includes the major themes of the book in his benediction. There are two parts to the benediction. In the first part the author identifies God as the God of peace and the one who raised Jesus from the dead. He identifies Jesus as the great shepherd of the sheep and the Lord. In the second part, the author turns to what God is doing in his people. The author makes a prayer-wish that God would equip his people to do his will and assures his readers that God is working in them to bring about their obedience. This all redounds to God’s glory forever, for Jesus has been a faithful high priest to bring us into the presence of God forever by his blood of the covenant.
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
How Deep The Father's Love For Us
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts no pow’r no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
